Fallen Firefighter Memorial 2024

annual ceremony

Author | Captain Peter Oleskiw

To all firefighters and their families,

As a volunteer firefighter, along with many thousands in the province of Ontario, we have many obligations throughout the year that keep us committed to a full schedule. Practical and theoretical fire and medical training, truck checks, various-type incidents, our regular job, family commitments and much more.

We must take time to stop, reflect and pay tribute to the firefighters who have given their lives in support of their communities, whether retired or active duty. We must work together and continue to reduce the impact of modern-day firefighting on our bodies and minds so that we may eliminate line of duty deaths.

These memorials across the province of Ontario have been created to show respect, honour and reverence to those fallen firefighters.

Please take time out of your busy lives to attend so that you can give thanks to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as their families who have suffered great loss.

The Firefighters Association of Ontario Fallen Firefighter Memorial will be held – tentatively – on Sunday, August 4, 2024 at 10:30 a.m.. The site has yet to be determined.

The Canadian Fallen Firefighter Memorial Ceremony will be held in Ottawa at the Canadian Fallen Firefighter Memorial on Sunday, September 8 at 10:30 a.m.. Hosting the 2024 ceremony will be the Canadian Volunteer Fire Services Association.
